In 2018, Michael completed a composer residency at the Mexican Centre for Music and Sonic Arts (CMMAS) in Morelia, Mexico.
The residency was supported by the British Council, CMMAS, Cryptic and Anglo Arts as part of a three year programme; Seeing Hearing Mexico UK.
Michael used the residency to explore the life and work of Leonora Carrington, a British painter, who became a figure of national importance in her adopted Mexico before she became more broadly recognised as a key figure in surrealism and feminism.
Michael presented his work in public in CMMAS at the end of his residency, before giving a lecture in the Centre for Digital Arts in Mexico City.
Back in the UK he continued to work on the compositions which would finally emerge as the recording, Sonambulo: A Birdbath of Teeth, Composed for the Bride of the Wind.
